Tips for Making Your Pre-Pregnancy Clothes Last a Little Longer
Depending on your body type, anytime between 10 weeks pregnant and 18 weeks pregnant, your belly will start to “pop out” and you’ll have that lovely little mound that is the tell-tale sign of early pregnancy.
But, if you start buying maternity clothes right from the first trimester, they’ll end up costing you a fortune. You’ll be noticing changes in your pregnancy day by day and, if you splash out on maternity clothes now, it’s likely that you’ll only be able to wear them for a short time and will have to buy more in a few weeks time.
Instead, we’ve got some handy tips for making your pre-pregnancy clothes last a little longer (without stretching and damaging them – you’ll want them after your baby arrives!)
One of the early symptoms of pregnancy is swelling and tenderness in your breasts. You might find that, at around 12 weeks pregnant, you’ve gained a whole bra size and your old bras feel uncomfortable!
But, because you don’t know how much your breasts are going to grow or what your eventual cup size will be, it’s best to put off buying a specialized maternity bra until you’re at least halfway through your pregnancy.
Here’s a solution for the interim: buy some bra extenders! You can pick these up for less than $10 (much cheaper than the cost of a brand new bra!) and they work wonders for lengthening your bra strap, adding support and making you

The last thing you want as your baby bump begins to swell is a tight waistband! But, if you want to get a couple of weeks’ extra wear out of your favorite pair of jeans, a pants extender could be the answer. These simple little devices loop around your button and then through the buttonhole, giving you up to an inch of extra breathing room. They come in handy packs of 5 and will cost you less than $8. These pregnancy pants extenders are also excellent for after your baby arrives.

Belly bands are by far the most comfortable and supportive way to get a bit more wear out of your favorite pants or jeans and are so versatile that they’ll last you right throughout your pregnancy and even after your baby is born. The stretch fabric fits comfortably around your belly and allows you to have the top button of your pants undone – holding them up with a silicone strip. It’s also great for when your tops start to ride up and you can create a layered look.
